When Functional Process Maping Trainign Is Important

Process maps are great tools for graphical representation of work processes, their problems and opportunities. That is why a Functional Process Map is important in getting higher business returns. We understand and define the term Â'businessÂ' as a trade or occupation which engages the person in gainful result for example, the wholesale food business.

A series of changes or functions make up a Â'processÂ' like the process of digestion, while a Â'ModelÂ' refers to a schematic description of a theory or phenomenon, that is used for a detailed study with all its relevant characteristics, such as a model of generative grammar. There can be various reasons for doing process modelling, but we can outline them as:

Process Documentation: An OrganizationÂ's requirement to record theirbusiness processes Process Improvement Exercise: Organizations looking to perform an analysis of current processes and improve on it. A BPI activity would involve analysis of current as-is process, refinement of processes based on six sigma, lean etc. and devising a revise To-BE process.

Enterprise Systems Implementation:Before the implementation of major IT system such as ERP, CRM, Order Management systems etc., many organizations carry out process modeling work even today. This is a wise choice considering that most of the enterprise systems being utilized have an impact on how you perform your business.

The fundamental question is whether you change your process for the system or vice versa and if the whole choice would have been different if they already had an idea of their processes and needed automation help. However, each has their own disadvantages.

Enterprise Architecture: Many organizations have a distinct Enterprise Architecture practice and one area of E.A. is Process/Business Architecture. So organizations do implement process modeling work as a stand alone aspect for a proper perspective.

In this case, process modeling may be a very abstract representation of the usual conditions typically required from the EA perspective. It is difficult to get funding to do process modeling work as a project without any links to a business budget, but with SOA as an essential approach in many EA teams, process modeling in detail provides greater value and helps identify the right service mapping.

BPM: Process modeling forms the beginning of a Business Process Management project. Usually BPM bring their own modeling tools, so it is important to identify the need for process modeling as only for the particular BPM project or part of a higher central process repository. Prefer a central Process repository for all process models (for e.g. in tools like Teleology system architect, aris, case wise etc.) and picking out a process for BPM implementations from central repository or create BPEL from the process models directly. Essential pre-requisites for creating better process modeling are:

1) People: You should have a skilled team with good business analysts to understand what needs to be modeled and engage with the respective business users. You also need a fine modeler who understands how to map the requirements into suitable gmail models. As we are limiting it to modeling space, people with six sigma, lean, simulation skills may not be required at this phase.

2) Tools: Appropriate tools like word, visio, aris, and system architect which depend on modeling requirements and aims as well as on the cost, skill sets etc. Any process should be available centrally and be constantly updated as they form the assets of the organization. A repository based tool which supports standard modeling and reporting techniques to provide long term benefits would be viable.

3) Standards: An essential factor for an organization is to adopt a common methodology for process modeling like flow charts, petri-nets, event based process charts and new standards like Business Process Modeling notations (http://www.bpmn.org). A standard approach allows a common ground for process understanding and discussion to avoid complexities. Consequently, process modeling is important in conveying a clear idea to a business about the activities performed and also through analysis of its application on business and underlying infrastructure. The Functional Process Map in a business allows sponsoring initiatives, supporting process modeling and architecture especially when setting on a BPM/SOA journey.
